With heavy hearts we would like to let you know that Mike Mariska (husband of Linda) passed away this past week. Please keep the Mariska and Knapp families in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this loss in their family.

Please note that the church office will not be open next two weeks due to the Christmas and New Years holidays. I will be in and out at odd hours.
If you need something urgently, please contact the Elder on Call. If it's not an emergency, please just leave a note or a message and I will get back with you as soon as possible.

Update 12/19/13:
Missions Update:
Excerpt from a letter from Pam Mann, our missionary in Haiti. at Institution Univers:
-- Our goal in sending IU grads to study in the US has been that
they might return to provide leadership in Ouanaminthe. Thus far, three have
returned. One failed sadly after 18 months and returned. A second, Maucler
Charles, died tragically in a boating accident. His remains are now interred in
the Ouanaminthe cemetery. The third, Hantz-Jerry, our first US college grad,
continues to delight us with his energy and passion. He assists in the early
morning prayer for the high school in IU's huge lobby. Always neatly dressed and
standing erect, he inspires the respect of students and teachers alike. He has
managed the transition from student to work colleague with undeniable grace.
Keagan
Smith has been moved to Craig Hospital for rehab. Here's an update from his
mom:
Lots of 'Firsts' today:
...Clancy walking the halls with a sleeping baby
...Keagan changing Kai's Diaper
...going OUT to a restaurant around the corner from the hospital for dinner
...and getting checked off for car transfers-which means go...ing to 'The Hobbit' on Saturday with FaMiLy and FrIeNdS (17 of us in all!!)
We've come a
l-o-n-g way since the ambulance ride to Craig from St. Anthony Hospital 2 1/2 weeks ago!
ThAnK YoU for the continued LoVe and PrAyErS!
We are getting just a bit FraZZled trying to take good care of Kai when he's teething at Craig.we still do not have a room there. We will be keeping him much more at the Applewood house until housing at Craig comes through.
We can't wait to have AlMoSt all of us together for Christmas. Kass has had a few concerns with her pregnancy, so her and Blake need to stay put.
All I can say is next Christmas we will RELISH in ToGeTHeRneSS!!

To close, I share a quote I just found online from Nelson Mandela:
Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice. Like
Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be
overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.
While I agree that poverty arises from injustice, I would not call it
unnatural in our fallen world. It is man-made, being the natural result of our
fallen humanity. The good news here is that, as kingdom people, we refuse to be
limited by the natural. We follow God who is above everything, that is,
supernatural. When we, whether Haitian or American, choose to defend the poor,
we behave unnaturally, in obedience to our supernatural God.
